The Wall Street Journal’s Maria Bartiromo recently questioned Ice Cube about his BIG3 basketball league. Before the start of Season 6 on June 25 the father of gangsta rap discussed plans to sell some of the teams. He was unable to go into great detail, although he did suggest that the league was in talks.
He stated, “We’ve spoken to owners of teams, some MLB, some NFL. “We want actual proprietors, men who understand how to advertise sports in their communities, men who are familiar with the locale. Not just a guy, but also investors who are really engaged and knowledgeable about the cities they are in. That fits into our larger strategy.
Ice Cube was then questioned about the nation’s current situation, which includes a fentanyl epidemic and widespread homelessness in all major cities, and whether or whether people should be “worried” that the nation is headed in the wrong direction.
I believe they ought to be concerned, he remarked. “At the moment, the nation is very nervous. Everyone must contribute in some way. This year, The BIG3 will visit various cities. Like in the previous few years, we are no longer in our bubble. This summer, we’ll travel all around the nation, ideally leaving cities a little bit better than when we arrived. That is our strategy. Everyone should have this plan, in my opinion. Everyone must ask themselves, “What can I do to improve things?” as they face the mirror. The only way things can change is in that way.
Since the early N.W.A days, Ice Cube has been a supporter of socio-political reform. He continues to advocate for action decades later with songs like “Arrest The President” from his 2018 album Everything’s Corrupt.
